Safari Overview

The 5-Day Kibale & Bwindi Primate Safari is a thrilling journey through Uganda’s premier primate habitats. Trek to see chimpanzees in Kibale Forest, encounter mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, enjoy wildlife boat safaris in Queen Elizabeth NP, and experience local culture along the way.

Safari Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival: Entebbe to Kibale Forest National Park

  • Arrival at Entebbe International Airport and meet your professional safari guide
  • Drive to Kibale Forest National Park (~5–6 hours)
  • En-route experiences: scenic countryside views, tea plantations around Fort Portal, crater lakes region
  • Evening check-in at lodge; relax and briefing about chimpanzee trekking
  • Meals: Dinner

Day 2 – Chimpanzee Trekking & Bigodi Wetland Walk

  • Early breakfast; transfer to park headquarters for briefing
  • Chimpanzee trekking with rangers (permit approx. $250 per foreign visitor)
  • Other primates: red colobus monkeys, black-and-white colobus, L’Hoest monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys
  • Lunch at lodge
  • Visit Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary: monkeys, birds, and cultural community experience
  • Dinner and overnight stay at lodge

Day 3 – Kibale to Queen Elizabeth & Transfer to Bwindi

  • Breakfast and drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park
  • Activities: short game drive and boat safari on Kazinga Channel (hippos, elephants, buffalo, crocodiles)
  • Continue drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
  • Optional stop in Ishasha sector for tree-climbing lions
  • Check-in at Bwindi lodge; dinner and overnight stay
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4 – Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

  • Early breakfast and transfer to park headquarters
  • Gorilla trekking: hike through rainforest with guides to locate a gorilla family
  • Spend 1 hour observing gorillas in their natural habitat (permit approx. $800 per foreign visitor)
  • Return to lodge; optional visit to Batwa community
  • Campfire, dinner, and overnight stay at lodge

Day 5 – Bwindi to Entebbe

  • Breakfast at lodge
  • Begin scenic drive back to Entebbe
  • Stops along the way: Equator monument for photos, craft markets, lunch in Mbarara
  • Arrival in Entebbe and airport drop-off for departure
